Last night I nipped over to Derbyshire to film the Darley Dale Brass Band. 128 years old; regional champions several times over; national finalists – those were the days. Now the troupe of 28 has dwindled to 2. That’s a brass duet. All featured on BBC East Midlands Today and News 24. When I turned up with my camera I was expecting to see a couple of disheveled musicians down on their luck. However word travels fast and around 14 musicians turned up. Good news for the re-juvenated Darley Dale Brass Band. Bad news for a chap trying to make a story about a band with no members. But that’s telly for you.
