Today’s feature for BBC East Midlands Today was about a chap who has returned to Leicester from a life working in a South African game park. Not content with a few hardy perennials and a buddleia or two, he has turned his back garden into a tropical zoo by installing and taking care of 63 animals from all over the world. The meerkats were aloof, the skunk was cocky, the royal python was eerily friendly but the raccoon seemed to be top dog. Most shy was the chap himself who preferred to stay all but anonymous. Still I have to say his back garden with its minimal flora and abundant fauna was immaculate.
