Care Settings

9th February 2010

NIACE have a pending conference at the end of this month which will underline the benefits of informal adult learning in care settings such as residential homes. Today I visited the Aigburth residential home in Leicester where residents were taking part in one-to-one learning. One lady was sending her first e-mail, another was re-learning the piano (after her stroke) while a 93 year old was finally learning Welsh. And then there was Ken and his clarinet. There was a real buzz to the place and as Ken said, ‘Some people want to stay at home, but I don’t”. He loves it here.
